If you would like to point a domain name that you have to another domain or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it is forwarded to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be forwarded to the site you have created, but it will also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the traffic from various subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since this kind of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

You can easily set up CNAME records provided you have a shared hosting from our company. We're going to provide you with an easy-to-use CP which allows you to view all DNS records for the domains and subdomains that are hosted inside the account. Creating a CNAME record includes several simple steps - select the domain/subdomain, select CNAME as the type, enter the hostname you are forwarding to, after that simply click the Save button. The procedure is as elementary as that and the new record is going to be active almost right away. That way, you will have more control over your domain names and subdomains and over the content they open, you'll be able to set up a private URL for company e-mails, and much more. If you feel uncertain about how to create a new record or you have never done such a task, we have a short video tutorial where you could see the whole process first-hand. If you want to modify or delete an existing CNAME record created for a domain/subdomain hosted on our end, it'll require literally just a click to make it happen.
